Blockchain Launch

The Blockchain Launch team sits within Onyx by J.P. Morgan and leads and coordinates blockchain and distributed ledger-related projects with partners across J.P. Morgan. We are focused on building for the future. We identify the opportunities that could be impactful for J.P. Morgan and its clients in the next 3-5 years, and build early-stage proofs of concepts and products to meet those trends that we see coming. Blockchain Launch was created to foster a commitment to exploring and deploying distributed ledger technology, and since its foundation we have positioned J.P. Morgan as a leader in the space.

About this role

We recently announced the launch of the Payments Innovation Lab in Athens that will initially concentrate on the development of solutions around distributed ledger technology, artificial intelligence and cryptography related to payments systems in support of Onyx by J.P. Morgan.

We are looking for an experienced, product focused, technical lead that will deliver capabilities for Onyx within the Athens Payments Innovation Lab. This person will organize, manage, guide and grow a team of product managers and engineers, and will partner with and have accountability to the Head of Blockchain Launch and Head of Engineering within Onyx to deliver on Onyx’s objectives.

As the local team lead, a key aspect of the role will be providing hands-on guidance, direction and input to Onyx engineers in Athens and managing the tech delivery of the Blockchain Launch objectives. Additionally, the candidate will partner closely with local Senior Management to ensure the Onyx team is integrated into the broader Athens Innovation Lab as well as the broader Onyx and J.P. Morgan organizations.

Job responsibilities

  • Leads multiple technology and process implementations across departments to achieve firmwide technology objectives
  • Directly manages multiple areas with strategic transactional focus
  • Provides leadership and high-level direction to teams while frequently overseeing employee populations across multiple platforms, divisions, and lines of business
  • Acts as the primary interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, driving consensus across competing objectives
  • Manages multiple stakeholders, complex projects, and large cross-product collaborations
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams
  • Champions the firm’s culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 7+ years’ experience working in a Tier 1 Bank or large organization
  • 5+ years’ experience in agile project delivery and large-scale initiatives across various internal teams with a strong technology focus and customer-centric approach
  • 5+ years’ experience in a technology focused role with both business & technical expertise
  • Exceptional all-round communication skills with the ability to navigate multiple relationships in order to deliver on objectives
  • Structured and organized; able to proactively organize and manage teams, processes and deliverables
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a continuous desire to improve your technical acumen
  • Able to work under pressure, deadlines and navigate unexpected pivots or roadblocks with ease

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Execution focused, action-oriented & adaptable to meet the needs of a fast paced organization
  • Advanced knowledge of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines across different technology stacks
  • Ability to work in large, collaborative, geographically dispersed teams to achieve team goals
  • Experience in smart contract design, testing, internal auditing and deployment
  • Experience with JavaScript, Typescript and other back-end languages
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and cloud environments
  • Working proficiency in developer toolchains
  • Experience in web app design and development, and knowledge of cryptography & security best-practices

About the Payments Innovation Lab in Athens

We recently announced plans for a new office in Athens, Greece, to support our organic growth in the country and to bolster the innovation efforts of our Payments business globally.

J.P. Morgan first opened its doors in Greece more than five decades ago, and today we provide products and services from across our Investment Banking, Payments and Asset & Wealth Management businesses to a number of local and multinational Greek clients.

The new office will house a new Payments Innovation Lab, which will provide research and development to the J.P. Morgan Payments business. Initially, the Innovation Lab will concentrate on the development of solutions around distributed ledger technology, artificial intelligence and cryptography related to payments systems in support of Onyx by J.P. Morgan.
