Are you ready to start a career in the rail industry and be directly involved in the recovery of locomotives and wagons on the UK’s rail network?We have an opportunity for someone to join our Breakdown & Recovery Team at Hoo Junction as an Operator.
Breakdown and Recovery is a national service, proving safe and efficient restoration of normal running conditions on the rail network following an incident. As a Breakdown & Recovery Operator you’ll work to the instruction of the Breakdown & Recovery Supervisor at all times, supporting the team controlling hydraulic equipment and being a designated person on site.
You will act as second in command within the team in the absence of the supervisor on site.
Undertake task risk assessments and produce safe systems of work
Ensure vehicle checks and logbooks are completed daily
Ensure all equipment is checked and in date
Create a safe working area both in the depot and at a call out
Operate hydraulics trolley to effect safe lifts using MFD jacks and beams
Manual handling of packing materials to effect safe lifting/jacking
Manual handling of jacking equipment and beams
Undertake cutting/welding tasks
Undertake depot cleaning/maintenance duties within competence levels
Undertake light maintenance of associated plant/equipment
The Breakdown & Recovery Teams are required to work shifts covering a 24/7 period including bank holidays, weekends and nights.
This position is 42 hours per week.
You will have a strong desire to learn and develop professionally, using open thinking and have the ability to adapt to new ways of working.
You will have strong communication skills and feel comfortable and confident working both alone, and in a team.
Experience of making a positive contribution within decision making
A clear understanding of mechanical maintenance is essential for this position.
You must possess a positive working attitude
You will also have good basic IT skills
A full UK driving licence is required for this position.
